Consultation and engagement with communities on the Reform of Vocational Education continues this month across New Zealand.

Events have been held over the last few weeks and discussions have been constructive. These events are an opportunity for people to come along and have their say and ask questions.

Community events week beginning Monday 18 March

  • Wednesday 20 March – Unitec Institute of Technology, Auckland 5:00 -7:00pm
  • Thursday 21 March – UCol, Palmerston North campus 5:00-7:00pm
  • Friday 22 March – Fono,  Unitec  Building 183, Room 1104, 11:00am-1:00pm
  • Friday 22 March – MIT, Auckland 5:00-7:00pm
  • Monday 25 March – Blenheim community meeting, Marlborough District Offices 4:00-5:00pm

“This is an open consultation process and we are genuinely interested in hearing from individuals, communities, providers, iwi and others on their view of how to improve New Zealand’s education system,” reiterated TEC Chief Executive Tim Fowler.

Tim Fowler made it clear that there would be no change for students to courses and fees this year due to the proposals currently being consulted on.

“Students should be reassured that there is no change for them. Keep enrolling and studying as usual.

“To ensure we hear from a broad range of people and get constructive feedback, we started a six-week period of consultation and engagement which includes visiting communities across New Zealand. So far, we have heard and listened to a wide range of people and organisations in both the North and South Islands. Weeks one and two were busy and we learned plenty.”

Feedback can be provided in a number of ways including a detailed online survey, a short feedback form, by attending one of the community meetings or email your thoughts.
